The rhythm of the break step

Salsa On2, frequently referred to as New York style, centers its movement pattern on the second beat of the musical phrase. By placing the break step on the two and the six, dancers align their steps with the syncopated pulse of the conga tumbao, rather than the downbeat.

Partnering and movement

This partner dance emphasizes a fluid, continuous flow. Dancers maintain a compact frame, utilizing the momentum created by the specific timing of the break step to execute intricate patterns. The aesthetic prioritizes groundedness and precision, relying on subtle lead-and-follow signals to interpret the layers of the music.

The local dance floor

In the Ottawa–Gatineau social scene, On2 events attract dancers who prioritize musicality and deep connection.
