Son Cubano in Ottawa–Gatineau

Discover the Soul of Cuban Rhythm

Son Cubano is a foundational dance style that blends Spanish melodic elements with African percussion, creating a sophisticated and deeply rhythmic experience. Within the Ottawa–Gatineau dance community, it is cherished for its graceful, grounded movement and an emphasis on the connection between partners, making it a timeless staple of social dance floors.

What to Expect

At a Son Cubano event in our region, you will encounter a relaxed, conversational atmosphere where the focus is on fluidity and musicality. Unlike faster-paced dances, Son allows dancers to settle into the music's 'clave' rhythm. Whether you are dancing in a close embrace or a more open posture, the experience is defined by:

• Elegant footwork that emphasizes the beat.
• Gentle, fluid body movement that follows the flow of the percussion.
• A welcoming social environment where dancers of all levels can enjoy the music.

This dance style is an excellent choice for anyone in the Ottawa–Gatineau area looking to refine their connection and musical interpretation in a respectful, community-oriented setting.
