The Beat of Salsa On1

Salsa On1 is defined by the first beat of the musical phrase, where the lead and follow take their first step. This linear style emphasizes a strong connection between partners, grounded in a clear structure that makes the intricate patterns of lead and follow accessible on the social dance floor.

Partnering and Movement

• Linear Path: Unlike circular salsa styles, On1 keeps dancers moving along a distinct line, creating space for spins, turns, and intricate arm work.
• The Break Step: You will step on beats 1 and 5, creating a consistent rhythmic anchor that helps partners stay in sync even when the music gets complex.
• Social Flow: Because the movement is linear, it relies on clear signals between partners to navigate transitions, spins, and cross-body leads.
