Driven by the syncopated pulse of big-band jazz, swing dancing is defined by a grounded, elastic physical connection between partners and a signature rhythmic bounce. Practitioners emphasize a playful, conversational exchange where the lead and follow interpret the music in real time, moving through both structured 6-count and 8-count patterns.

The Social Experience

In the Montreal dance scene, swing gatherings emphasize a communal, inclusive atmosphere. The custom of rotating partners ensures that dancers frequently interact with different skill levels, fostering a space where collective learning and improvisation are the norm rather than the exception.
