Blistering speed and precise, rapid footwork define the Cali style of salsa. Originating from Colombia, this partner dance distinguishes itself from other salsa variations through a higher tempo and a unique emphasis on complex, syncopated shines executed between intricate turns.

Movement and Tempo

• Footwork: The focus is on rapid, clean movement rather than complicated arm patterns.
• Rhythm: Danced to high-energy Colombian salsa tracks, characterized by driving percussion and powerful brass sections.
• Mechanics: Partners maintain a close, grounded connection, allowing for quick pivots and explosive, athletic steps.

In the Quebec Metropolitan Area, the Caleña community emphasizes mutual encouragement and collective joy. Dancers of all proficiency levels frequently cheer each other on during solos or shines, fostering an atmosphere where personal growth is celebrated.
