The Embrace of the Abrazo

Movement in Argentine Tango begins with the 'abrazo,' a shared embrace where partners exchange weight and subtle tension. This connection serves as the primary conduit for communication, allowing for fluid, improvised navigation across the floor. Rather than following rigid choreography, dancers interpret the cadence and melancholic phrasing of tango music through a collaborative dialogue.

Social Tango Culture

In the Québec Metropolitan Area, local gatherings known as 'milongas' foster a space centered on mutual attention and technical development. Whether you are taking your first steps or refining your embrace, the focus remains on personal connection and the tactile feedback between partners.

What to Expect

• Non-verbal communication: Leading and following are conveyed through weight shifts rather than hand signals.
• Improvisational structure: The dance is created in the moment, making every song a unique encounter.
• Inclusive environment: Newcomers are encouraged to prioritize a comfortable connection over complex sequences.
• Musical depth: You will explore a range of rhythmic and lyrical expressions found in traditional and contemporary tango recordings.
