What to expect

Join this intensive 3-hour workshop exploring the Afro-Cuban roots of salsa, led by instructor Julio Hong accompanied by live percussionists. This session is designed for solo dancers; no partner is required.

Workshop Program

  • Part 1: Returning to the Roots (90 minutes): Led by Julio Hong and his percussionists, this section explores the richness of Cuban folklore, its movements, and foundational rhythms.
  • Break (15 minutes)
  • Part 2: Evolution (90 minutes): Led by Julio Hong, this session examines how these roots evolved into modern salsa, helping you integrate this history into your personal dance style and musicality.

About Julio Hong

Born in Cuba, Julio Hong began his training in folk dance before graduating in classical ballet from the National School of Arts in Havana. A former principal dancer for Cuban television, his international career includes performances with the Marie Chouinard company, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and Cirque du Soleil. In Quebec, he has appeared in musical revues such as Shéhérazade, Motown, and Joe Dassin, and has contributed to popular television shows including Le match des étoiles and Chanteurs masqués.
