The Foundation of the Beat

Centered on a steady 2/4 march, Merengue relies on a distinct, continuous weight transfer that creates a natural hip motion. This partner dance emphasizes a close, grounded frame, allowing leads and follows to maintain a rhythmic connection that feels intuitive from the very first step.

Social Atmosphere

In the Québec area, Merengue acts as an essential social dance at various gatherings and dance venues. Its approachable nature makes it a frequent selection for those looking to transition between high-intensity dance sets, as the steps prioritize comfort and ease of interaction over complex patterns.

What to Expect

• Accessible Learning: The core movement is grounded and repetitive, making it one of the most welcoming styles for newcomers to integrate into a social setting.
• Steady Rhythms: Expect music with a consistent, driving tempo that anchors the dance and keeps the energy moving throughout the night.
• Community Interaction: At local events, you will find a casual environment where dancers of all proficiency levels share the floor, focusing more on shared movement than technical performance.
