The foundation of Dominican Bachata lies in its connection to the intricate, guitar-driven rhythms of Dominican music. Unlike styles that focus on wide, sweeping movements, this form emphasizes precise, syncopated footwork that keeps dancers grounded and deeply connected to the beat.

Movement and Style

• The dance centers on quick, shuffling footwork and subtle hip movement that reflects the complex layers of the music.
• Dancers maintain a relaxed, flexible frame, allowing for creative freedom and spontaneous transitions.
• Footwork is often playful and improvised, focusing on conversation between partners rather than rigid choreography.

The Social Environment

In the Québec Metropolitan Area, events focusing on this style prioritize an approachable, community-oriented atmosphere. Whether you are at a local social or a dance gathering, you will find a setting where the focus remains on the music and the shared experience of the dance.

What to Expect

• Music selections that highlight the classic, percussive sounds of traditional bachata artists.
• An inclusive, open-floor format where dancers of varying experience levels exchange tips and practice in a low-pressure environment.
• A focus on listening to the instrumentation, as the dance steps are meant to mirror the rhythmic accents of the guitar and percussion.
