Introduction to Danzón Workshop

A new addition to Guarachita’s curriculum: Danzón!

Danzón, Cuba’s national dance, emerged in the late 19th century and became an important part of the evolution of Cuban popular music and dance, with its legacy extending into forms such as mambo and cha-cha-chá.

In this introductory workshop, we’ll learn a little about the history of danzón, explore its musical structure, including when to dance and when not to dance, and practice the basic steps.

This standalone workshop will be offered on two dates, with identical content. Choose whichever date works best for you:

• Saturday, September 26, 2026, 4:30–5:30 p.m.
• Saturday, October 31, 2026, 3:30–4:30 p.m.
