The Rhythm of Swing

Swing dancing centers on a grounded, elastic connection between partners, characterized by a distinct bounce that mirrors the syncopated rhythms of jazz. It is a partner-based form that emphasizes improvisational conversation between dancers as they move to the swing-era sounds that defined the early-20th century.

The Social Environment

In the Ottawa–Gatineau scene, social nights prioritize a communal atmosphere. The practice of rotating partners is a standard convention, meaning you will regularly meet new people throughout the evening. This social structure creates a supportive environment where dancers of varying experience levels share the floor and learn through mutual engagement.
